Red Hot Chili Peppers – ‘Californication’ (1999)

RHCP’s seventh studio album came shortly after a time of despair for the band. 1995 saw the release of One Hot Minute, a commercial disappointment in comparison to its massively successful predecessor Blood Sugar Sex Magik. Californication saw the return of guitarist John Frusciante who arguably led the band back into critical acclaim.

Californication enforced the band’s strong funk elements. Their classic funk sound is evident in tracks “All Around the World” with flange ridden bass and “Get on Top” where Frusciante pounds on the Wah pedal throughout. This record will forever be one of the Chili’s classics.
