Rival Sons – ‘Head Down’ (2012)

Rival Sons are a Californian blues rock band. Their sound is reminiscent of bands like Led Zeppelin & Deep Purple with a good dose of soul. Their third studio album, ‘Head Down’ solidified their style and resulted in the band becoming more popular within the clustered rock scene.

Head Down is a varied record. The first half is littered with energetic tracks, such as Keep On Swinging with its catchy hook provided by guitarist Scott Holiday. The second half features a more sombre tone, however two-part monster rocker Manifest Destiny is the highlight of the album for me, where Holiday lets loose his soloing prowess.

After seeing the band live back in April 2013, it was reassuring to see them carry their energetic chemistry over to the stage which in turn made me appreciate their sound and presence more.

Favourite track: Manifest Destiny Pt.1 // Least favourite track: Nava
