Wu-Tang Clan’s debut over 20 years ago changed the landscape of hip-hop and reinvigorated its popularity.
What I love about Wu-Tang is their brilliant use of samples, mainly soulful music, as backbones to their tracks. This creates a dynamic between vocals and often classic pieces of instrumentation. One of the group’s most famous tracks, “C.R.E.A.M.” attains its melody by borrowing it from 1967 track “As Long As I’ve Got You” by The Charmels. Pair that with the classic vocal hook from Method Man and there you have C.R.E.A.M., a track which will forever be one of the group’s staples.
